The Informal Expert Group of the European Commission on Directive (EU) 2019/1937 was established to:
- a) assist the European Commission in coordinating and facilitating the appropriate work of the Member States in transposing Directive (EU) 2019/1937 at national level;
- b) exchange information between the European Commission, the United States and the European Economic Area on the interpretation of the provisions of the Directives, prepare the transposition of legislation into national law, overlook the application of national transposition laws and the preparation and follow-up of the review requirements of the Directive;
- c) assist the European Commission in complying with the Interinstitutional Agreement between the Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission on Better Law-Making, which underlines the importance of more structured cooperation between them in assessing the implementation and effectiveness of EU law and the need to cooperate with the EC in obtaining information and data necessary for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of EU law.
The European Commission may consult the group on any matter relating to the transposition of the Directive into national law, the implementation of national transposition measures, and the preparation and follow-up to the annual review by the EC. The expert group should clarify how the existing and national legislation will ensure the effective and uniform application of Directive (EU) 2019/1937 on the protection of persons reporting breaches of EU law.
It normally meets twice a year in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium.
