On January 29th 2018, the Commission for personal data protection marks, for the 12th year in a row, the European Data Protection Day. By tradition, the day is declared as an “Open Day”, and in the building of the Commission a reception was hosted for citizens and data controllers looking to receive expert help and updated information on questions regarding personal data protection.
This year, the Commission was visited by citizens and representatives of data controllers from different business sectors. The upcoming date May 25th 2018 – or the moment from which the General Data Protection Regulation applies, sparks exceptionally great interest and desire for a conversation with the experts from the Commission. During the discussion, CPDP’s experts explained the principles of the new legislation regarding risk assessment, meeting the transparency and accountability requirements, the conditions for appointing a data protection officer, taking the appropriate technical and organizational measures for securing the safety of data, as well as safekeeping the respective documentation in accordance with the Regulation.
On such kind of meetings, the attention of the interested persons always focuses on questions, linked to the validity of consent for the processing of personal data and also the grounds for their processing for marketing purposes. On behalf of the data controllers was underlined that trainings led by CPDP are of particular importance. Again, the plans of the supervisory authority to build a specialized training center in such direction received full support.
The yearly held “Open Day” is one of the opportunities for CPDP to meet a wide range of interested persons and to popularize its activity in the field of personal data and privacy protection.
