On May 12, 2014 a meeting was held between leadership representatives of the Commission for Personal Data Protection and the Chairman of the Supreme Administrative Court, Judge Georgi Kolev. CPDP was presented by its Chairman Ventsislav Karadjov, members Mariya Mateva and Tzanko Tzolov, and the Secretary General, Desislava Toshkova.
The reason for the meeting was the CPDP-initiated creation of an interdepartmental working group for the modernization of the Electronic Communications Act in relation to the revocation of Directive 2006/24/EC (Directive on traffic data retention). According to CPDP Chairman Ventsislav Karadjov the following institutions must be represented in a working group of this nature: Supreme Administrative Court, Supreme Cassation Court, Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, the National Intelligence Service, the State Agency "National Security" and the Communications Regulation Commission.
The Chairperson of the Supreme Administrative Court, Judge Georgi Kolev, emphasized that the Supreme Administrative Court has a number of decisions on the Directive on traffic data application and expressed readiness for representatives’ participation in the working group.
Workshop participants shared the opinion that the modernization of the Electronic Communications Act should be made after a public and expert debate.
