Today, on the 26th of February, 2019, the Bill on Amendment and Supplement of the Data Protection Act adopted by the 44th National Assembly on the 24th of January, 2019, re-adopted on the 20th of February, 2019 by the veto of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, has been promulgated officially in the 17th issue of the State Gazette.
Since the adoption of the EU Data Protection Reform Package in 2016, CPDP has been working actively on the preparation of the necessary amendments and supplements to the national legislation, and it should be noted that a great deal of work has been done by CPDP`s team of lawyers. In the course of the public discussion, the final document has a total volume of 400 pages, including notes and proposals by citizens, organizations and institutions, and respectively along with CPDP`s comments over them. There is no single opinion on the bill that has not been thoroughly analyzed and discussed. Representatives of CPDP also actively participated and cooperated in a working group together with the Committee on the Internal Security and Public Order of the National Assembly to finalize the bill and reach a reasonable compromise on its texts with relevant stakeholders.
