The Hungarian capital of Budapest is this year’s host of the annual Spring Conference of EU Data Protection Authorities, held on 26 and 27 May 2016. The organiser of the event is the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Hungary. The Commission for Personal Data Protection is represented by Mr. Tsanko Tsolov – member of CPDP.
The Spring Conference has a significant contribution to the development of the fundamental right to protection of personal data not only in Europe but also globally. It is a place for discussions and exchange of knowledge, experiences and ideas for cooperation and development of unified methods for action of the Data Protection Authorities. This year the event is held under the slogan "New frameworks of cooperation."
In the context of the recently adopted new EU rules on data protection, an important topic of discussions concerns the practical implications for national legislators, data protection authorities and data controllers. Several presentations are dedicated to this topic such as “The role of guidelines, recommendations and codes of best practices in encouraging consistent application of General Data Protection Regulation”, “The One-stop-shop mechanism according to Chapter VII of the GDPR – advantages and possible obstacles”, “The interplay between European Union legislation and national procedures”. The new rights and responsibilities of data protection authorities in accordance with the new EU legal framework on the personal data protection will be discussed as well.
Subject of discussions will be the expectations of non-EU member states, in terms of modernizing the Convention № 108 for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data.
The Conference panel “Respect for data protection by the national security bodies” is dedicated to the interaction and supervision that the Data Protection Authorities must carry out regarding the individuals` personal data processed by the National Security Authorities. Considering the great importance of national security in today`s uncertain world ever new emerging challenges and threats to the security of European citizens, Data Protection Authorities will discuss the importance of security measures, challenges and opportunities for the protection of privacy.
