The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is founded in 1961 with the aim to stimulate sustainable economic progress, to raise the standard of living of the population and to maintain financial stability.
OECD is a forum of countries describing themselves as committed to democracy and the market economy. The organization provides a platform to compare policy experiences, seek answers to common problems, identify good practices and coordinate domestic and international policies of its members.
Currently, the OECD is an established international organization with a leading role in developing and implementing the highest standards in all key areas such as governance, tax policy, transport infrastructure, agriculture, education, digital economy and innovation, climate, etc.
Since 1980, the OECD has provided valuable guidance on privacy protection and cross-border flows of personal data and has provided valuable cooperation for the development of data protection. Part of the permanent structure of the organization is the working group on security and privacy in the digital economy. The group is working on policies that ensure that digital security and privacy protection support the development of the digital economy.
The participation of representatives of the Commission for Personal Data Protection in the activities of the organization is an opportunity for sustainable development of personal data protection, taking into account current challenges arising from the goals of the OECD and the membership of the Republic of Bulgaria in the organization.
