Every year on the 28th of January, the Commission for Personal Data Protection (CPDP) marks the European Data Protection Day. This year, for the 13th consecutive time, public events would be held.
Along with the enforcement of the new EU data protection rules in May 2018, CPDP has organized awareness-raising campaigns in order to ensure that Bulgarian citizens are fully aware of their data protection rights.
On the 28th of January (Monday) from 10:00 to 12:00, CPDP’s building would be publicly accessible by citizens, as the day is traditionally declared as an „Open Doors Day”. Employees from the administration will welcome in their offices all those who would like to get acquainted with the atmosphere of their work and receive up-to-date information regarding the protection of personal data.
From 10:00 to 12:00, the Commission`s „Boardroom” opens a reception area for data controllers and citizens, where experts will welcome visitors and answer their questions.
CPDP holds the responsibility to promote personal data protection awareness and to form the values of the citizens at national level in the field of personal data protection. In honor of the European Data Protection Day, the Commission has issued and is disseminating printed information materials, designed to help citizens, businesses, organizations and public administrations to comply with and benefit from the new data protection rules. The Commission plans to combine the new General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EC) 2016/679) and the updated Data Protection Act into a single bundle edition, with translations of the texts in English too.
On the official web page of the institution, where information is translated into three official languages, citizens can find answers to frequently asked questions, practical examples, and internet references to clear and practical guidelines in relation to the newly adopted data protection rules.
