The Ministry of Interior of Republic of Bulgaria sets up, maintains and operates the National Schengen Information System of Republic of Bulgaria (NSIS). The System provides exchange of information in SIS between the countries implementing the Schengen legislation aimed at national security and public order protection, management of external Schengen borders control, and assistance to police and judicial cooperation. Information and personal data processing within NSIS complies with the Ministry of the Interior Act and the Personal Data Protection Act. NSIS data is processed only for purposes it has been entered for.
