The Commission for Personal Data Protection decided to hold public discussion on two very important topics of increased public interest – video surveillance and the processing of personal data for journalistic purposes, as well as for the purposes of academic, artistic or literary expression. In addition to the high public interest, these topics are also characterized by their broad scope, as they are extremely relevant to numerous data controllers and data subjects.
The public consultation approach has proven to be a useful type of interaction between public regulators, such as the CPDP, and civil society, business, academia, and all parties interested in applying the rules on the processing of personal data.
CPDP has decided to define the scope of the subjects invited to this public hearing so as to obtain clear and reliable information on all possible cases, both on the issues related to video surveillance and on finding the balance in the protection of personal data and the right to expression and information. The aim is to achieve maximum transparency of the discussions and subsequent conclusions and recommendations.
