On 2 to 3 of April 2014, the Macedonian capital Skopje hosted the 16-th Central Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities Conference. The annually held conference is a place to exchange knowledge, experience and vision with aim to support mutual cooperation and to develop unified approaches of the data protection authorities on the protection of personal data. The main topics of this year`s discussion were related to recent developments in the modernization process of the European legal framework for data protection, as well as discussion of issues arising in the implementation of ongoing activities of data protection authorities. The forum was attended by representatives of Data Protection Authorities of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Ukraine, Croatia, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Georgia. The Commission for Personal Data Protection of Bulgaria was represented by its members – Krasimir Dimitrov, Valentin Enev, Maria Mateva and prof. Veselin Tselkov.
The main sessions of the Conference included “Modernization of the legislation for personal data protection”, “Big data – handling the challenges”, “Video surveillance on private property”, „Personal data protection questions in election procedures”. Focus of one of the main discussions was the great challenge of big data towards the concept of privacy. CPDP participated in this session with a presentation delivered by the Members of the Commission Mrs. Mariya Mateva and Prof. Veselin Tselkov presentation, entitled “Cloud computing, big data, accountability and new challenges for protection of personal data”
