Agreement on protection of consumers’ personal data when using services of online content providers was signed today Mr Ventsislav Karadjov, Chairman of the Commission for Protection of Personal Data (CPDP), and Mr Stoil Alipiev, Chairman of the National Association for Consumer Protection (NACP).
One of the main objectives of cooperation is to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of natural persons, in particular their right to the protection of personal data, and to actively counter their unlawful processing.
The signed Agreement on protection of consumers’ personal data when using services of online content providers will become an important mechanism to prevent the unlawful collection, processing and use of consumers’ personal data on the Internet.
The CPDP and the NACP will jointly investigate and analyse the compliance by data controllers who provide online services, using cookies and other tracking technologies, with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the Personal Data Protection Act.
The scope of the investigation will be extended to online content providers in different sectors.
The two parties undertake to jointly launch an outreach campaign on the protection of natural persons’ personal data, their storage, processing and use with a view to preventing conditions for abuse.
The Commission for Personal Data Protection and the National Association for Consumer Protection will actively cooperate and exchange information on cases of misuse of personal data contained in consumer reports.
The good practices identified will be promoted.
