A meeting between the Bulgarian and the Portuguese Data Protection Authorities was held in the Commission for Personal Data Protection on the 25th and 26th of February 2010. The Chairman of the National Commission for Data Protection of Portugal, Mr. Luis Silveyra, was a guest. The experience of Portugal in the work organization, structural changes and improvement of the personnel competence was shared. The Bulgarian participants in the meeting were acquainted with the types of inspections carried out under the provisions of the Schengen Convention. Mr. Silveyra told his Bulgarian colleagues how they cooperate with the other authorities on data protection in the exchange of information within the Schengen Information System and how they cooperate with the other national bodies, which process data received from the Schengen Information System. Some aspects of the internal and external control in the work of the Portuguese authority on data protection in carrying out its powers under Schengen were discussed.
