The annual Spring Conference of Data Protection Authorities is held on 27th and 28th of April 2017 in Limassol, Cyprus. The host and organizer of the event is the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Cyprus. The Bulgarian Data Protection Supervisor is represented by Ventsislav Karadjov – Chairman of CPDP and Mariya Mateva and Tsvetelin Sofroniev – members of CPDP.
This year’s conference is entitled „New Horizons” and the focus of the discussion is the implementation of the new EU Data Protection Legal Framework – General Data Protection Regulation and Directive on Data Protection in Police and Criminal Justice Activities, as well as the modernization of the Convention 108 for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data. The lecturers and presenters are representatives of European Supervisory Authorities, the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the European Agency for Fundamental Rights, research institutes, and businesses – Google, Microsoft, Facebook.
In the context of the new challenges for data protection authorities, the agenda of the Conference covers a number of topics designed to reach the highest number of participants. The program includes six main panels – „The dawn of new data protection regimes”, „Raising awareness – bringing DPAs closer to people and enterprises”, „Transparency and accountability in the Cloud”, „LEAs access to data – large scale systems, interoperability and transborder data flows”, „Genomes and DNA databases – challenges for privacy”, and „Expanding our horizons – the Spring conference in the new regime”.
The delegates will adopt new accreditation rules and discuss the role of the Conference as the most significant annual event of the data protection authorities in Europe.
