On 28-30 April 2014, the Chairman of the Commission for Personal Data Protection Mr. Ventsislav Karadjov attended the second meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee of Data Protection (CAHDATA) on the modernization of Convention 108 for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, held in Strassbourg.
Subject of the meeting was the second reading of the amendments proposed to Convention 108. The amendments aim at addressing the challenges related to the development of the information technologies, as well opening the Convention 108 to third countries wishing to accede it, thus turning it into universal instrument for protection of personal data.
One more meeting of the Ad hoc Committee is planned for 2014 before the final text to be submitted for voting to the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.
