On 28th July 2014 the premises of the Commission for Personal Data protection hosted a round table dedicated to the presentation of the publication “Privacy protection in the workplace. Guide for employees”. The publication is a result from the successful implementation of the project „Raising awareness of the data protection issues among the employees working in the EU”, on which the Commission has been cooperating during the last two years with the data protection authorities of Poland, Czech Republic and Croatia.The project leader is Ms. Mariya Mateva, member of the Commission.
The guide aims to supply the natural persons working in the EU with information and recommendations on how to protect their privacy and personal data at the workplace. The publication contains useful information and advice applicable to the whole cycle of the work process – starting from job search, through recruitment process, employment period and the period after the termination of the employment relationship. One of the chapters of the guide deals with the rights of employees and the role of the data protection authorities. The publication falls within the framework of the CPDP strategy for prevention of data abuse by raising awareness of the public.
Among the issues presented at the round table were the “Leonardo da Vinci” program, the project proposal, and the guide itself. Representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Labour Inspectorate Agency and the Employment Agency to the Council of Ministers.
The project has been funded by the European Commission through the “Lifelong learning program”.
