On the Customs Joint Supervisory Authority Plenary, which took place on 10th December 2014, the CPDP’s member Tsvetelin Sofroniev was elected it’s Vice-Chair.
The Customs Joint Supervisory Authority is established on the ground of Article 18 of the Convention on the use of information technology for customs purposes. It is competent on the matters concerning the exercising supervision on the use of the Customs Information System and examining the difficulties by the interpretation and application, arising from the use of the Customs Information System. The Joint Supervisory Authority examines the problems with exercising independent control from the national supervisory authorities of the Member-States, as well as the problems, which may occur when individuals exercise theirright of access to the system. The Authority prepares opinions on the adequacy of the data protection measures and proposals for common decisions on the arising problems.
The Customs Joint Supervisory Authority is composed of two representatives from every Member-State, proposed by the independent national supervisory data protection authorities. The Authority is managed by a Chair and a Vice-Chair.
