A two-days regional conference „Privacy in digital age” was held on January 27th -28th2015 in Prishtina, organized by by the National Agency for Personal Data Protection of Kosovo. The event is one of several used by the Kosovo’s data protection authority to mark 28th January – the International Data Protection Day. The Conference was attended by representatives from state institutions and private sector – police, customs, banks, health institutions, schools and universities. Representatives of major companies from the field of information and communications technologies were among the participants – Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Hewlet Packard, Nokia. The Bulgarian data protection authority was presented by prof. Veselin Tselkov, member of CPDP, and Tsvetan Ivanchovski, head of Control and Administrative Penal Procedures Department, Legal Procedures and Supervision Directorate.
The challenges of the digital world, the legislation, and the achievements in ensuring the citizens privacy were discussed in the two conference days. Speeches and presentations of the supervisory authorities’ representatives from the Balkan region, Europe and guests from Japan were delivered during the first day. They introduced the culture, legal framework and reforms implemented in their respective countries. The main theme of the first conference day was connected with the challenges posed by digital society to data protection in the Balkan region.
In that session, the CPDP’s representative, prof. Veselin Tselkov, delivered a presentation entitled „New Challenges for Privacy and Data Protection in the Digital World”. Discussions on privacy in the digital world continued on the second conference day, when an emphasis was placed on the personal data protection in the Internet. This day also included presentation of the results of the youth campaign „Privacy in Digital Age” and a discussion of its main accents. The conference ended with an award ceremony for the best youth campaigners.
