The 38th International Privacy Conference is held from 17 to 20 October 2016 in Marrakech city, Kingdom of Morocco. The event is one of the most important global forums for exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas among the data protection authorities. It includes open sessions for all professionals and stakeholders in the field of privacy and closed sessions available only to the data protection authorities. Participants in the conference are delegates from all around the world – data protection authorities, NGOs, academics and businesses. This year delegates from the Bulgarian CPDP are the following members of the Commission – Tsvetelin Sofroniev and Mariya Mateva and the director of "Legal Affairs, International Cooperation, Planning and Training Directorate" – Plamen Angelov.
The main topics of the open sessions of the 38th International Privacy Conference are "Privacy and personal data protection as a driver for sustainable development", "How to reconcile security and privacy," "Technology and Science Trends: what impact on privacy" and "Digital Education".
The focus of the discussions is personal data as a fundamental building block of the digital 21st century and its tremendous value to society. Further, the importance of building an interoperable data protection legal system and the need of laws to ensure legal certainty for organizations will also be discussed. Subject of the discussions will also be the protection of personal data in cross-border transfers. The rules and standards that should apply to Government access to citizens’ personal data and the balancing of different interests will be viewed from different perspectives (governmental, corporate, academic and civil society). The participants in the conference will get familiar with initiatives in the field of digital education from all five continents, which aim to make citizens informed and responsible participants in the digital society and to effectively make use of their rights and abide to their obligations.
Traditionally, along with the main sessions of the conference there will be a number of additional relevant seminars and side events.
