Today, 13th of December 2016, the Chairperson of the Commission for Personal Data Protection Mr. Ventsislav Karadjov was reelected Vice-Chairman of the Working party on the protection of individuals with regard to data processing, which has been established in accordance with Directive 95/46/EC on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (Article 29 Working Party).
On its Plenary Meeting held on 12th and 13th December 2016, the Article 29 Working Party elected its Vice-Chairmen for the next two-year term – Mr. Ventsislav Karadjov – Chairperson of the Commission for Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Bulgaria and Mr. Willem Debeuckelaere – President of the Belgian Commission for the Protection of Privacy. 16 from the all 28 Member States supported the candidature of Bulgaria.
The Article 29 Working Party (Art. 29 WP) is composed of representatives from the data protection authority of each EU Member State, the European Commission, the European Data Protection Supervisor, as well as representatives of other EU bodies.
The main task of the Working Party is to provide expertise on issues related to the protection of personal data. It is the main advisory body to the European Commission of each adopted Community measure which affects the rights and freedoms of individuals in the field of privacy and data protection. One of the functions of the Working Party is to promote uniform application of EU law in all Member States and implementation of cooperation between the data protection supervisory authorities.
