The Children`s Creativity Contest „What do others know about me?” announced by the CPDP on 28 January – European Data Protection Day, was completed. It coincided with the 15th anniversary of the creation of the Commission. The objective of the competition was to encourage and motivate children between the ages of 7 and 18 to deepen their knowledge and awareness of their behavior when sharing personal data, both in virtual and real life.
Children and the protection of their personal data have always been the focus of CPDP`s attention. Adolescents are the most vulnerable group in our modern society with regard to privacy abuses, especially when communicating on the Internet. The broad capabilities that new technologies offer besides the proven benefits enable serious entry into the private space. Therefore, the CPDP`s task to promote among children in school age the basic rules for safe communication in the social environment and especially through information and Internet technologies is extremely responsible. The issue of personal integrity in all aspects of life is becoming more and more relevant, and the responsibilities of CPDP as an independent supervisor include active actions to explain the Commission`s activities and the measures it takes to protect personal data.
A special page was created on Facebook for the distribution of the contest, containing useful information, educational videos and behavioral advice related to the protection of personal data, all presented in an accessible and close to young audience. The competition was also announced through the CPDP website. With the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science and the regional education departments, 2000 posters were distributed to schools throughout the country with detailed information about the competition.
The 5 categories have brought together more than 250 works, each of which deserves to be distinguished. Participants come from communities of all sizes from all regions of the country.
All distinguished children will receive a diploma and a prize. The first prizes are those announced in advance (tablet or telephone) and participants classified in second and third place will receive incentive prizes.
The CPDP thanks all the school principals, teachers and managers of creative workshops who organized the collection and dispatch of children`s works.
The interest shown by the children in the competition is a serious incentive for the CPDP to continue the initiative in the future as well.
