The largest event in Bulgaria concerned with the coming into force of the General Data Protection Regulation – ‘GDPR Sofia’ Conference, went on with big interest. Organizers of the event were Digital National Alliance, with the cooperation of the Ministry of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council and the Commission for Personal Data Protection (CPDP). The Conference was opened by Ms Mariya Gabriel – the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society (with a video address), Ms Lilyana Pavlova – Ministry of the Bulgarian Presidency, Mr Ventsislav Karadjov – Chairman of the Commission for Personal Data Protection, and Ms Gergana Passy – Chairman of the Digital National Alliance.
More than 300 people from around the country participated in the event willing to hear and discuss, together with lead experts from the European Commission, rapporteurs from the European Parliament and representatives of business companies as Telenor Bulgaria, Telelink, Google Bulgaria, Microsoft Bulgaria, Facebook and many others, what are the advices and solutions for all data controllers concerned with the coming into force of the GDPR on 25 May 2018.
This is the first of a series of events, part of an awareness-raising campaign lead by CPDP, on the EU reform in the data protection sphere and the new legal framework, which the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) establishes. The events are aimed at the general public, data controllers and all stakeholders.
