On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the CPDP published a book in which it looks back and analyses its achievements and the evolution of the right of personal data protection in Bulgaria. The book traces the long and difficult path to establishing the institution, its national and international recognition, and building trust among citizens. Twenty years after its establishment, CPDP takes stock of its activities, presenting the most important of its achievements and summarizing its good practices.
The book is composed of three main parts.
The first partis an overview of haw the institution was grown. An emphasis is placed on the institution’s most important achievements over the years and a summary statistic is provided (as at 01.08.2022) on the main directions of its activity – from laying the foundations of the national system for personal data protection until now. The retrospective view of what has been done in these 20 years shows that the second and third staff of the CPDP successfully continued the process of positive development of institutional publicity, expansion of the media presence, and sustainable institutionalization of the Commission as a independent supervisory authority in Bulgaria. The Commission`s review shows well-laid foundations of supervisory activity and public awareness of current and future challenges. The book reflects the beneficial cooperation with national government authorities, non-governmental, and private organizations. Information is provided on the CPDP participation and contribution in the work of European and international organizations and fora for personal data protection and privacy.
The second part of the book is devoted to the administrative practice of the institution in key fields. A number of legal acts of the Commission have been published that have withstood judicial control and/or acts representing permanent and principled practice on matters of public interest.
The third part of the publication presents the three staff formations of the Commission for Personal Data Protection from 2002 to 2022. A brief professional biography of the chairmen and members of each of the formations and their contribution to the national data protection system is provided.
The book contains photos of important events, as well as certificates and awards for the CPDP.
