The Customs Joint Supervisory Authority is established on the ground of Article 18 of the Convention on the use of information technology for customs purposes as authority, competent on the matters concerning the Customs Information System supervision.
It is composed of two representatives from every Member-State, proposed by the independent national supervisory data protection authorities.
The Customs Joint Supervisory Authority has the following tasks:
· exercising supervision on the use of the Customs Information System;
· examining the difficulties by the interpretation and application, arising from the use of the Customs Information System;
· examining the problems with exercising independent control from the national supervisory authorities of the Member-States;
· handling the problems, which can occur by the exercising of the individuals’ right of access to the system;
· preparation of proposals for common decisions on the problems;
· preparation of opinions on the adequacy of the data protection measures.
