From 13 to 16 October 2014, the Republic of Mauritius hosts the 36th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners. This annual international event is one of the most significant events in the data protection field. It is a place for exchanging different points of view and discussions about various privacy aspects in the high-tech, dynamic and full of variety data processing environment. The Conference involves delegates from the entire world – Data Protection Authorities, NGOs, representatives of the academia and the business. This year, the Commission for Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Bulgaria is presented by Ms. Maria Mateva and prof. Veselin Tselkov.
The Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners consists of an Open Session accessible to all privacy professionals, and a Closed Session only accessible for data protection and privacy authorities.
This year forum is held under the slogan „A world data protection order – is our dream coming true?”. The main program consists of various discussion topics focused on the challenges that the rapidly growing global digital world poses to the personal data protection, as well as, on the means to answer these challenges. The central point is the need for an effective data protection system in the world. Advanced technologies to enhance privacy will be presented, as well as, the overseas perspectives for interconnected privacy systems. The Conference delegates will be acquainted with the mapping of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s Cross-Border Privacy Rules onto the European Union’s Binding Corporate Rules. Other major discussion topics are „Privacy with No Territorial Bounds”, „Privacy and Data Protection in the Developing World”, „Net Neutrality and Data Protection”, „Ethics, Fundamental Rights and Big Data”. Conference delegates will discuss the aspects of e-Health related to privacy. Subject of discussions will also be the „one stop shop” principle and what should be the rules of the regulator to ensure effective enforcement. An United Nations General Assembly Resolution entitled „Privacy in the Digital Age” will be presented on the second day of the Conference.
