On 15th April 2008 in the building of the Central Military Club in Sofia was held the conference of AFCEA on topic Information and National Security, Sensibility and Protection. The Conference was held under the patronage of Mr. Plamen Vachkov – The Chairman of the State Agency for Information Technology and Communications /SAITC/ and the special participation of Mrs. Veneta Shopova, the Chairwoman of the Commission for Personal Data Protection /CPDP/.
There were participants form the Bulgarian Section at theArmed Forces Communications and Electronics Association /AFCEA /, SAITC, CPDP, the Ministry of Defence, banks, companies and firms from the IT and communications sector. In the event took part the members of CPDP, Mrs. Maria Mateva, Mr. Veselin Tselkov and Mr. Valentin Enev.
At the conference were discussed a large number of issues related to the area of IT and communications, personal data protection and their significance for the national security.
Lots of technological decisions related to this problems were presented as in the world so in Bulgaria. Mrs. Shopova briefly presented the activity and the new vision of the Commission and Mrs. Stanimirova, the Director of Directorate of Legal and International Activity, acquainted the participants with the policy of CPDP. A lot of questions were asked, regarding personal data protection, conflicts with certain laws and the significance of the information in general for the national security.
“Personal data protection is a constitutional right of each citizen and a small part of the national security.” – summed up Mr. Tselkov.
